How can I get involved in First Art?

You can get involved in First Art in a number of ways:

Become a member, free of charge, and we’ll keep you posted on all the activities, opportunities and events in your area. This will include invitations to Go Sees, project news, information about our large scale events and opportunities to give us your feedback. You will also be included in an annual members draw for your chance to win an iPad. To join First Art, click here.

If you are a member of a community group, you can apply for a small cash award in order to add arts content to your activities, i.e. booking an artist to lead a workshop. Email info@firstart.org.uk for more details or download our application form from …..

We are aiming to introduce supper clubs during the life of the project, where we will invite people from within the First Art area to come along and share views on what they have experienced. This is a chance for you to become a ‘voice’ for the arts in your area.

If I have an idea for an arts project in my area, who do I get in touch with?

We can put you in touch with one of our team of producers who you can talk to in the first instance. Just email info@firstart.org.uk and we will direct your request to the most relevant person.

Alternatively, we can offer small financial awards and again, if you want to discuss this, you can contact info@firstart.org.uk and we can have a chat about your idea.

I want to set up an arts group in my local area, how can First Art help?

If you have an idea for a group activity, First Art may be able to arrange a Go See experience - where you can get inspired and gain ideas for how it could work for you. For example, if you were looking at starting a book festival in your village, we may be able to arrange a visit to a book festival happening elsewhere in the country; here, you could talk to organisers, focus on what you would like to include and how you could see such a festival developing over time. Email info@firstart.org.uk and tell us your ideas.

What happens after First Art ends?

First Art is funded for three years, but it’s the Art Council’s view that the project should have a ten year lifespan. We are aiming to inspire and empower people to become First Art ambassadors and, in the future, be a voice for the arts in these areas.

In more practical terms, we are planning to put together toolkits to enable ‘champions’ to put together funding applications, commission an artist and create an event.
